Monday is Stew's birthday (we won't say which one). As a gift, I booked a helicopter tour of the beaches with Tampa Bay Aviation out of Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg. He's always wanted to see our little beach house from the sky and I wanted him to have that experience.
The weather decided to test my commitment to this idea. After rescheduling and researching the weather forecast every hour for two days, the time arrived to drive him to the 'secret location' of his birthday adventure.
Our pilot, Roland Collins, was the very definition of accommodating. He took our picture prior to the flight both inside of the copter and out and he helped us choose whether to fly with doors on or off (we chose off as most crazy people should).
Once we got our headsets on and adjusted, we buckled in for one of the most amazing and breathtaking experiences we've ever had together.
We took what is called the 'Treasure Tour' which follows Central Avenue toward Treasure Island. We headed north to Johns' Pass where our pilot circled around our neighborhood on Boca Ciega Bay and headed back down the beaches toward Pass - a - Grille. After flying over Tierra Verde, we made our way back toward St. Pete.

What a wonderful experience! As soon as we deplaned and processed what we had just experienced, Stew said, "Let's do that again. No, seriously, we have to do this again."
I have a feeling we will.
